FALL THINGS #2 // poet vagabond hats

I FOUND THIS HAT ON ELIZABETH ST.

IT'S BLACK WOOL AND  FOLDS INTO
A SMALL DRAW-STRING CASE,
SOLVING ALL TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES.

IT'S CALLED "POET" AND IT REMINDS ME OF:

STEPPING OFF A STEAM TRAIN

WITH AN OLD TRUNK IN AN UNKNOWN COUNTRY

IN-TRANSIT TO WHERE?

YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO MEET SOMEONE

AT THE PLATFORM BUT YOU WERE NEVER

GIVEN A NAME

AND SO YOU SIT ON THE PLATFORM BENCH

WATCHING THE TRAINS GO BY

[YOU OPEN A COMPACT AND TOUCH UP YOUR LIPSTICK]

THINKING TO YOURSELF:
THE PAST IS GONE

AND YOU SMILE JUST A LITTLE BIT.
